Staff Selection Commission will hold a Combined All India Open Examination on 08/04/2012 for recruitment to the posts of Junior Engineer (Civil) and Junior Engineer (Electrical) in Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Department of Posts, Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical), Junior Engineer (Quantity Surveying & Contract) in Military Engineering Service (MES), Junior Engineer (Civil & Mechanical) in Central Water Commission (CWC) and Farakka Barrage.
I. Vacancies :
1.CPWD : 192 for Junior Engineers (Civil) & 186 for Junior Engineers (Electrical)
2.CWC: 82 for Junior Engineers (Civil) & 23 for Junior Engineers (Mech)
3.MES : 155 for Junior Engineers (Civil) & 91 for Junior Engineers (Electrical/ Mech), 13 for JE (Quantity Surveying & Contracts)
4.Farakka Barrage: will be determined in due course.
5.Deptt. Of Post : will be determined in due course
II. Age Limit : Relaxation in age as per rules.
1.18-27 years for Junior Engineer (Civil & Electrical) in CPWD and Department of Posts
2.Not exceeding 30 years for Junior Engineer (Civil) and Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical) in MES
3.Upto 32 years for Junior Engineers (Civil & Mechanical) in CWC and Farakka Barrage.
4.18-27 Years for Junior Engineers (Quantity Surveying and Contract) in MES
III. Educational Qualification : Degree/ Diploma in Civil or Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an institution recognized by Govt. of India or equivalent qualification.
IV. Pay Scale : Rs. 9300-34800 grade pay Rs. 4200/-
Fee : Rs. 100/- in the form of Central Recruitment Fee Stamps. No fee for SC/ ST/ PH/ Women and Ex-servicemen candidates.

The Staff Selection Commission is functioning under the Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India. Initially known as Subordinate Services Commission, it was set up on 1 July 1976 primarily to make recruitment on zonal basis for non-technical Group C posts under the Central Government, except the post for which recruitment was made by Railway Service Commission and the industrial establishments. The functions of the Staff Selection Commission have been enlarged from time to time and now it carries out the recruitment for Group B posts also under the Central Government. Thus, the Commission recruits for the major work force of the Central Government. This segment constitutes the most vital part of the Government machinery; the posts for which it makes recruitment are at the grass root level which interact with the public and interfaces with the implementation of the Government’s policies.
