In 1897, Sidraphong, a sedate, sleepy hamlet in the Darjeeling district of the then undivided Bengal came in to limelight for an unprecedented achievement. The reason that led to the eminence of Sidraphong in the ‘Power Map’ of the British India and subsequently the entire Empire was the successful commissioning of the first Public Utility Power Generation Hydro Station.
